Policy on the use of Artificial Intelligence
The Editorial Board recognizes the potential of innovative technologies in scientific research while emphasizing the priority of academic integrity and authorial responsibility. The Editorial Board does not prohibit the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies (such as ChatGPT, Gemini AI, Claude AI, Grok, DeepSeek AI, etc.) by authors during the preparation of a scientific article, provided there is strict compliance with international standards of publication ethics.
The use of AI within the journal is governed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) recommendations "Authorship and AI tools, Elsevier’s policy on The use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in writing, and the European Association of Science Editors (EASE) Recommendations on the use of AI in scholarly communication.
AUTHOR OBLIGATIONS AND DISCLOSURE
Declaration of Use. Authors are required to formally notify the Editorial Board of the use of AI tools in the manuscript preparation process within the cover letter. Furthermore, the submitted article must detail the specific ways AI was utilized (e.g., for data collection, linguistic correction, data visualization, creation of graphs/charts, etc.) in a dedicated "Declaration of AI Use" or within the "Methods" section, ensuring appropriate citation of the generated content.
Authorship and Responsibility. AI tools do not meet the criteria for authorship and cannot be listed as an author or co-author of a scientific article. Authors bear full personal responsibility for:
- The accuracy and objectivity of the provided information;
- Compliance with copyright laws;
- The absence of plagiarism and adherence to the principles of academic integrity;
- The overall content of the manuscript.
Restrictions on Use. The use of AI must remain under the full control of the researcher. It is strictly prohibited to use AI technologies to generate:
- The core text of the work;
- Original research results and scientific conclusions;
- Statistical analysis and data modeling.
ETHICS FOR REVIEWERS AND EDITORS
To ensure confidentiality and the quality of expert evaluation, the Editorial Board establishes the following rules:
Prohibition of AI in Peer Review. Reviewers are strictly prohibited from using AI tools to evaluate the content of an article or to generate the text of their review.
Confidentiality. Manuscripts are confidential documents. Uploading manuscripts (in whole or in part) into AI systems is prohibited due to the risk of disclosing content and violating authors' rights.
Decision Making. Editors shall not use AI technologies to assess the scientific value of submissions or to make any editorial decisions. The responsibility for the editorial process and the final publication decision rests solely with the editor.
SANCTIONS FOR NON-COMPLIANCE
If the use of artificial intelligence is detected without proper disclosure by the author, the Editorial Board reserves the right to:
- Reject and return the manuscript at any stage of review;
- Initiate the retraction of an already published article in specific cases.
The journal's policy regarding the use of AI tools will be periodically reviewed and improved to reflect advancements in AI technology and updates to ethical standards and scientific publication practices.
