In modern Ukrainian state Greek community established an effective national and cultural self-organization, a well-developed infrastructure to meet the needs of the community development, indicating a high degree of identity of the ethnic community and causing the research interest in issues of its history.
One of the ethnic consolidation preservation means for a long historical period was a self-governing structure of Nizhyn Greeks and Northern Azov in the form of Nizhyn Greek magistrate and Mariupol Greek court respectively.
Despite the considerable number of works on the history of the Greek minority, which has appeared recently, the most limited in terms of historiographic study period in the history of the Greek community in Ukraine is Soviet one.
The authority of the Ukrainian Soviet republic was not interested in the History of national minorities of Ukraine, so there was little substantial research at that time. Soviet historical science highlighted only some aspects of the history of Nizhyn and Mariupol Greek communities. The aim of the article is to highlight the state of the study of Soviet historical science activities of Nizhyn Greek and Mariupol Greek magistrate court at the end of the XVIII - XIX centuries.
Party-state policy of the Soviet state in national relations had not contributed to the emergence of complex research problems of national minorities, in particular the Greek ethnos. History of Greek Communities of Ukraine was represented in the form of short essays. Consequently, neither Mariupol Greek court nor magistrate of Nizhyn Greek was the subject of a separate study of Soviet historical science.
Historiographic analysis made it possible to determine the study extent of this issue by Soviet researchers, and expand the issues range for further historiography study of the Greek authorities on the Ukrainian lands.References
